Financial information
Charity Projects Entertainment Fund ("CPEF") is a Delaware non-profit public benefit corporation incorporated in December of 2006. CPEF will make grants to other charitable organizations especially those groups working with poverty and health in both the USA and in Africa.
On April 25, 2007, CPEF was the beneficiary of a telethon called "Idol Gives Back" produced by American Idol Productions on the Fox Channel. The event attracted over 27 million viewers and raised over $71 million in charitable contributions to CPEF. In addition to the sum of $71 million a further $5 million was paid directly by third party funders to CPEF's beneficiaries as matched giving to grants made by CPEF. The beneficiaries from "Idol Gives Back", which can be found at www.cpefund.org/beneficiaries/, included projects which were shown on-screen during the TV show and other non-profit charitable organizations especially those groups working with poverty and health both in the USA and in Africa. Of the $71 million received by CPEF, $63.4 million has been awarded as grants to beneficiaries and $5 million has been used to pay for last year's campaign and program related costs. The balance of funds is due for further consideration at the next Board meeting. At the year end fundraising and administration costs represented 5.9% of the total income in the period.
CPEF assisted American Idol Productions with a similar event on April 9, 2008, but was not be responsible for distributing the money raised. This role was played by a newly formed not for profit called Idol Gives Back Foundation.
CPEF's financial statements for the period to December 31, 2007 include revenues from Idol Gives Back of $71 million. In addition, the Idol Gives Back iniative generated a further $5 million which was paid direct by the donors to specified beneficiaries as matched funds.
